SPANISH GRAND PRIX

Before settling on the Circuit de Catalunya as it's permanent home in 1991, making this year's race the 25th to be held here, the Spanish Grand Prix moved around quite a bit, being held at four other circuits. But the race was not exactly popular and, in Jerez in '89, asked if the crowd seemed bigger than usual, a famous F1 journalist looked out the window and replied, "I don't see any fans I don't recognise from last year!" The Spaniards preferred their motorsport on two wheels, producing many motorcycle world champions, the only famous car driver being the legendary multiple rally world champion, Carlos Sainz, father of our very own Carlos!

DOUBLE POINTS FINISH

If we had been offered a double points finish after Friday practice, or even after qualifying, we would have signed on the dotted line immediately!
