Toro’s 200 Grands Prix

Toro’s 200 Grands Prix

September 12, 2016

Last year, Scuderia Toro Rosso celebrated its tenth season in Formula 1. Now we move on to Singapore where no less than 200 candles will be required on the cake, as we celebrate our 200th Grand Prix participation. It all started on track in Bahrain in 2006, with Franz Tost at the helm, as he has been ever since.

In Singapore we also join the club of those teams that have covered more than 100,000 kilometres of racing in motor racing's blue riband category. Looking only at the teams currently racing, we are seventh on the list, with right in front of us, our friends at Red Bull Racing, while Mercedes are just behind us. That distance represents somewhat more than two laps of the circumference of the globe, which measures approximately 40,000 kilometres. We have racked up that distance over 11 years of history, evolution and changes, enjoying some good times as well as a few bad ones, which is only to be expected in the world of motor racing.

2006-2015: OUR TEN CARS

(0/0)

We started life with a V10 engine, then lived through the normally aspirated V8 era before the current hybrid power unit came along. A whole host of drivers have passed through our doors and one of them, Sebastian Vettel, has gone on to be a great champion, winning four world titles at the wheel of a Red Bull Racing car. However, his first win came in the cockpit of one of ours, the beautiful 2008 STR3, taking victory in the rain in Monza. More recently, we have been home to drivers of the calibre of Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen, not forgetting our current pairing of Carlos Sainz and Daniil Kvyat. Our team is always looking to the future, but occasionally it's also nice to look back and it really seems quite a while ago that we celebrated our first century of races, in Hungary in 2011. This weekend it's Singapore that provides the perfect backdrop for a celebration, with its night race, the city lights and a magical atmosphere. It will be the ninth edition of this Grand Prix, its debut dating back to 2008, the year we won the Italian Grand Prix.

Our 200th Grand Prix is not only a number and a milestone, it is also a host of memories, a great deal of effort and a lot of passion from every individual in our team. We thank each and every one of them for making it possible and all our fans for their unwavering support over the years. Grazie!
