Time for Singapore, time for Casio

Casio is a long time partner of Scuderia Toro Rosso, having been with us since 2016 and in Singapore on Wednesday, the Japanese watch manufacturer held a press event to announce the launch of some special limited edition watches.

Time for Singapore, time for Casio

Singapore is an appropriate venue, because this is the one race of the year where everyone seems slightly obsessed with the time of day, given that the usual F1 schedule is turned upside down, with the daily programme getting underway on track at about the time it would be ending at a “normal” race.

It’s not the first time Casio has produced chronographs that celebrate our partnership. The three new timepieces shown off on Wednesday night in the Conrad Hotel, a short distance from the race track, all reflect the fact that the Edifice range is the pinnacle of Casio’s analogue watch range and features many hints and elements that link the watches to our STR13 Formula 1 car.

“I like the high-tech design and the functionality,” said Pierre Gasly, attending his first Casio function. “The time-zone changes by linking with my phone when I land in a different country, which is great because we’re constantly travelling. The Dura soft fluoro rubber band is durable and really comfortable too. You can see how they’ve put everything they’ve learned from their time with us into producing these watches.”

Indeed you can Pierre, because a brief glance is enough to tell you that this is very much a Toro Rosso and Formula 1-inspired collection, with liberal use of carbon material, carbon fibre and rubber, with flecks of Toro Rosso blue and red. They definitely reflect the Casio Edifice ethos of ‘Speed and Intelligence,’ two qualities which we expect Pierre and team-mate Brendon Hartley to demonstrate on track this weekend!

Team Principal Franz Tost added: “It’s great see how Casio has used technology and components you’d find in our factory back in Faenza. Timing is crucial to everything we do in F1 and the Casio Edifice Scuderia Toro Rosso Limited Edition watch adjusts its time automatically thanks to information it receives from a smartphone link. Fans will enjoy using the watch to measure lap times too, to set track distance and calculate average speed.”

There were three new Scuderia Toro Rosso watches, but four new Casio products on display at the event, as the Japanese company has also produced a special edition chronograph reflecting its links with our Power Unit partner, Honda. While boasting the same clever technology and style of the others, the Honda one shows off the company’s traditional colours of black, white and red and the Honda Racing logo. You can find out a lot more about the new watches by clicking on the banner here below!
