Speed up your future

To see a pit stop with one of our cars in pit lane, while Daniil Kvyat is in the garage talking to his engineer is perfectly normal, at least it is when we’re at the race track. But transfer all this to the grounds of a university? Well, that is exactly what we did along with our Official HR Partner, Randstad Italia, who a few days ago organised a fantastic event at the Engineering Faculty of Bologna University.

Speed up your future

It took place in the classroom and outside: the Aula Magna was packed with students keen to take part in the workshop, attended by our engineers and Daniil himself. There was a rush to sign up for the pit stop challenge on the front wheels of one of our STR13 cars. 17 teams of keen youngsters took part, tackling their roles with wheel-guns, wheels and of course, stopwatches.

Scuderia Toro Rosso’s HR & Legal Director, Otello Valenti gave a talk, introducing the team and emphasising our philosophy of “discovering young talent” for the track and elsewhere. It’s a project that, through the Formula Future programme, has seen us working alongside our friends from Randstad Italia who, on the day, met many students and collected a pile of CVs during a series of job interviews.

The engineers of the future were very interested in what our specialists had to say: Tommaso Grossi, a young R&D Test Engineer, spoke about “The anatomy of a crash test in F1;” while Mattia Spini, Daniil Kvyat’s Race Engineer, along with the Russian driver himself, tackled the topic, “The secrets of the key relationship between an F1 driver and his Race Engineer.” Finally, it was time for the pit stops and the finalists were able to change the wheels on the car with Daniil Kvyat actually sitting in the cockpit.  The winning time wasn’t bad: three and a half seconds… a time fitting for the day’s hashtag: #SpeedUpYourFuture.
