There’s no escaping Christmas and New Year! And Formula 1 is no exception to that rule, or maybe it is? Because in our sport, “home for the holidays” is not always as simple as it sounds.
An F1 team is made up of many different departments, each with its own tasks and timetable. It goes without saying that this is a particularly crucial and very demanding time for all of us. The 2019 season is only just round the corner and everyone is doing their utmost to ensure we will be ready for the first winter test, which takes place in Barcelona from 18 to 21 February.
At the moment, our factory is working flat out. It’s a bit like Santa’s little helpers who are tireless, as they pull together to get the presents ready for the most magical night of the year.
That’s the best way to describe what’s going on under our roof right now, although, in fairness, we have forty more nights until our big day. Our two lads, Daniil and Alex, can’t wait to get their hands on our new car, the STR14 at the Catalunya circuit and everyone in the team and at our partners, Honda, are doing all we can to live up to their expectations!
Therefore, for many of our staff, this is not a time for holidays, albeit some, who work in departments less involved in the first phase of production for the new car, will be able to have a few more days to relax, although everyone will get to spend a few days at home with the family.
The locals will stay in the Faenza area, while the others will take a flight – yet another – to go and see their folks wherever they might be, from Australia to Sicily, from Abruzzo to Russia, from France to England, from Ireland to Germany, from the USA to Japan, heading for home or for a holiday destination: an opportunity to recharge the batteries.
As for the two drivers, they will be having a short break before ramping up their physical training to be ready for another long and tough season. To you our fans and friends, to all of you who make this sport unique and so exciting, Scuderia Toro Rosso wish you a Merry Christmas 2018 and a Happy New Year!
