And that’s it for this season… after the end of the last race, our drivers look back at today’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Carlos Sainz (STR10-01, Car 55)
“I’d say it’s been a good day and a positive weekend overall after a very tough start. I’m pleased because we managed to overcome all the problems we had on Friday and we put a very good race together to finish in P11 – I think it was the maximum we could do today. It shows that when we don’t suffer any problems we can be there. My rookie season ends with a positive feeling because I think we’ve had a good year and overall I’ve definitely learned a lot every race, become a better driver and this will make me stronger. I’d also like to thank the whole team for all their hard work during this year, it’s been great!”
Max Verstappen (STR10-02, Car 33)
*He finished 12th, but he was imposed 5 second time penalty + Drive through penalty (20 second added to race time)
“It wasn’t my day today. The pace was good, especially at the beginning, but it’s a shame that I locked-up my tyres into Turn 8 and therefore had to do an extra stop. From there on, my whole race was compromised and I knew it was going to be difficult to end up in the points. At least I enjoyed some last overtakes! It’s been a great season overall, I’ve really enjoyed my rookie season and I think we delivered some strong performances. This team has become already like a second family and I’d like to thank everyone here and at the factory in Faenza and Bicester.”
Cedrik Staudohar (Renault Sport F1 track support leader)
“Naturally we hoped for a better result today but at least we finished the race reliably. Even though we end the season on a relative low, we can be proud of the achievements this year, including two fourth positions and a total of 67 points, more than double last year’s total. It has been a pleasure to work with the STR team these last two years. Thanks to all at Viry and Faenza.”
